The DualSense Edge is Sony’s first official “pro” controller for PS5. It keeps the haptics and adaptive triggers of the regular DualSense and adds back buttons, adjustable trigger stops, swappable thumbstick modules and on-the-fly profiles. It also costs nearly three times as much. We used it as our only PS5 controller for a month.
Quick Answer
If you play competitive shooters or want to remap controls without leaving the game, the DualSense Edge is the best PS5 controller you can buy. Casual players should stick with the standard DualSense — the Edge’s biggest weakness is battery life.

Back Buttons & Trigger Stops
Mapping jump and crouch to the back buttons meant we never had to take a thumb off the right stick in Call of Duty — the single biggest competitive advantage here. The short trigger stops make shooting feel like a mouse click, and you can flip them back to full travel for racing games that benefit from adaptive triggers.
Profiles & Customisation
Each profile stores button mapping, stick curves, dead zones and trigger ranges. The new Fn buttons let you switch profiles mid-game, and a separate “volume and mic” overlay is handy during party chats.
Replaceable Stick Modules
Stick drift has been a problem on many modern controllers. With the Edge you can pop out a worn stick module in about 30 seconds and slot in a new one. Replacement modules cost extra, but that beats replacing a $70 controller.
Battery Life
This is the weak spot. With haptics and lighting on default settings we got around 5–7 hours per charge — noticeably less than the standard DualSense. The braided cable with a locking connector helps, and lowering haptics intensity adds a couple of hours.

Our Verdict: Great Controller, Know Why You Need It
The DualSense Edge is the best-feeling, most customisable PS5 controller around. Competitive players will feel the difference immediately; everyone else can save money with the standard DualSense.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the DualSense Edge work on PC?
Yes, over USB and Bluetooth, although some Edge-specific features work best on PS5.
Can you use it while charging?
Yes. The included braided cable locks into place so it will not pull out mid-game.
Is the DualSense Edge good for casual gaming?
It works perfectly, but most casual players will not use the extra features enough to justify the price.
