Gaming headset

The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 sits in the sweet spot of the gaming headset market: premium features without a premium price. It connects to your console or PC and your phone at the same time, lasts almost 40 hours per charge and has one of the best microphones in its class. We used it daily for a month across PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

Quick Answer

The Arctis Nova 7 is the best wireless gaming headset under $200 for most players. It is comfortable for long sessions, sounds rich and detailed, and simultaneous Bluetooth lets you take calls or listen to Discord on your phone while you play. Xbox players should buy the Arctis Nova 7X version.

Comfort & Design

SteelSeries uses a ski-goggle suspension band under the steel headband, so the weight spreads evenly across your head. After four-hour sessions we felt no hot spots. The ear cushions are soft AirWeave fabric, which stays cooler than leatherette, and the ear cups swivel to fit different head shapes.

All the controls sit on the ear cups: volume wheel, mic mute, power and a ChatMix dial that balances game audio against voice chat. It takes a day to learn, then becomes second nature.

Sound Quality

Out of the box the Nova 7 has a warm, energetic sound with punchy bass for explosions and a clear midrange for dialogue. Footsteps in shooters are easy to place. On PC, the free SteelSeries Sonar software adds a parametric EQ, game-specific presets and spatial audio, and it makes a real difference.

On PS5, the headset works with Sony’s Tempest 3D Audio, which gives excellent positioning in supported games.

Microphone

The retractable ClearCast Gen 2 mic slides into the left ear cup when you do not need it. Teammates said our voice sounded clear and natural, and the AI noise cancellation in Sonar removed keyboard clicks and a noisy fan well. It is one of the best microphones you can get without buying a separate USB mic.

Battery & Connectivity

We averaged around 36 hours per charge at moderate volume, which is close to SteelSeries’ 38-hour claim. Fifteen minutes on USB-C gives about six hours of playtime. The simultaneous wireless is the killer feature: game audio comes through the USB-C dongle, while your phone stays connected over Bluetooth for calls, Discord or Spotify.
