Fitbit Charge 6 Review: The Best Fitness Tracker for Most People?

Fitness band on a wrist

Not everyone wants a full smartwatch. The Fitbit Charge 6 packs GPS, an ECG app, stress tracking and Google Wallet into a slim band that lasts about a week per charge. We wore it 24/7 for five weeks — through runs, gym sessions, commutes and a lot of sleep tracking.

Quick Answer

The Fitbit Charge 6 is the best fitness tracker for most people. It is comfortable enough to sleep in, tracks heart rate more accurately than its predecessor, has built-in GPS for phone-free runs, and lasts around a week. If you want apps, big screens and LTE, buy a smartwatch instead.

Design & Comfort

The Charge 6 is light and slim, so it disappears on your wrist and is comfortable in bed. The return of a physical-feeling haptic side button makes it much easier to start a workout or wake the screen with sweaty hands. The AMOLED display is bright enough to read outdoors.

Heart Rate & GPS Accuracy

Google says the Charge 6 uses the heart-rate algorithm from the Pixel Watch, and it shows. During interval runs it followed our chest strap closely and caught quick spikes the Charge 5 used to miss. Built-in GPS took about 20–30 seconds to lock on and produced tidy route maps, with distance within 2% of a Garmin running watch on our test loop.

Sleep & Health Tracking

Sleep tracking remains one of Fitbit’s strengths. Sleep stages, the nightly Sleep Score and the daily Readiness Score (with Premium) give a clear picture of recovery. The ECG app and irregular-rhythm notifications add genuine health value.

Battery Life

With notifications, 30 minutes of daily exercise and sleep tracking, we averaged about 6 days per charge. Using GPS every day for 45-minute runs brought that down to around 4 days. Charging from low to full takes roughly two hours.

Do You Need Fitbit Premium?

The tracker works without a subscription, but Premium unlocks the Daily Readiness Score, detailed sleep profiles and guided workouts. New devices usually include a free trial — try it before deciding.
