The JBL Flip 6 is the Bluetooth speaker we see everywhere — poolside, in backpacks, on bike handlebars. It pairs a racetrack-shaped woofer with a separate tweeter, is fully waterproof and dustproof, and plays for about 12 hours. We used it for a month of daily listening, indoors and out.
Quick Answer
The JBL Flip 6 is the best portable speaker for most people. It sounds fuller and clearer than anything its size, survives drops, sand and pool dunks, and costs around $100 or less on sale. Want room-filling bass for parties? Step up to the JBL Charge 5 or UE Boom 4.

Sound Quality
For a speaker you can hold in one hand, the Flip 6 sounds surprisingly big. The dedicated tweeter gives vocals and cymbals real clarity, and the bass is punchy without swallowing the mids. At about 75% volume it easily filled a small backyard; at 100% it gets a little compressed, but stays clean.
The JBL Portable app adds a 3-band EQ. We cut the bass slightly for podcasts and boosted it for outdoor listening where there are no walls to reinforce low end.
Durability
IP67 means the Flip 6 can survive being submerged in up to a metre of fresh water for 30 minutes and is fully sealed against dust and sand. We dropped it in a pool, rinsed off beach sand and knocked it off a picnic table — no problems.
Battery & Connectivity
We got just over 11 hours at moderate volume, close to JBL’s 12-hour claim. Pairing is instant, and PartyBoost links it with other compatible JBL speakers for stereo or party mode.

Our Verdict: The Default Speaker to Buy
The JBL Flip 6 is tough, loud, great-sounding and easy to carry. Unless you need more bass or a built-in power bank, it is the portable speaker we recommend first.
